More than 300 families celebrated Tamil harvest festival Pongal at the Indian Club in Manama.
The programme was staged by Muthamil Solvendhar Mandram, a registered social group dedicated to developing public speaking, communication and leadership skills amongst the Tamil-speaking community.
The festivities featured the traditional boiling of Pongal, a popular rice preparation, along with a vibrant Kummi dance that saw enthusiastic participation from members. Attendees dressed up in traditional attire added a cultural touch.
The gathering was formally welcomed by the group’s president, Jothi Basu, followed by traditional dance and musical performances by children.
A demonstration of the ancient Tamil martial art Silambam by young participants enthralled the audience.
Guests later enjoyed a traditional lunch served on banana leaves, featuring a wide variety of authentic South Indian dishes.
