Eruptive episodes, which generally last for less than 12 hours, are separated by pauses that can be as long as over two weeks.
The recent lava overflows began on Saturday (January 10), with fountains reaching up to 20 feet (6 meters) inside Halemaʻumaʻu crater, the USGS said.
Kilauea is considered one of the world's most active volcanoes.
