Bahrain yesterday delivered a statement on behalf of the GCC states, in its capacity as chair of its 46th session, during the United Nations General Assembly session.
The assembly was discussing the priorities of the UN Secretary-General for 2026.
The statement reiterated the GCC’s support for the secretary general’s ongoing efforts to advance peace, strengthen multilateralism and uphold shared humanitarian values.
The statement was delivered by Bahrain’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN in New York Nancy Jamal.
The statement expressed the GCC’s appreciation for the leadership of Secretary General António Guterres during this critical period, coinciding with the UN’s 80th anniversary and amidst complex global challenges.
It made reference to the ‘Sakhir Declaration’ issued at the 46th session of the GCC Summit held in Bahrain in December 2025, in the which the GCC emphasised its commitment to deepening political, security, and economic partnerships internationally.
