Nuclear energy security expert Dr Randy Beatty recently delivered a talk at the Bahrain Centre for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat), focused on how small modular nuclear reactors can play a role in the energy systems of the future.
The ThinkTalk lecture, organised in co-operation with the US Embassy, was held as part of Derasat’s energy and environment studies programme, which addresses strategic transformations in the energy sector and their implications.
Moderated by Derasat’s studies and research director Dr Omar Ahmad Al Ubaydli, the discussion examined the advantages of SMRs in terms of efficiency, flexibility, safety, potential industrial applications, and the importance of their early integration into national energy planning.
Dr Beatty is an international expert in nuclear energy security and scientific co-operation, with decades of professional experience in senior leadership and research roles at the International Atomic Energy Agency, the US Department of Energy, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
