A student in Egypt was detained by authorities after posting a video of foreign tourists in which he falsely claimed they were under the influence of drugs.
The video, filmed in southern Sinai, caught the attention of the police after it went viral on social media. Following an investigation, officials confirmed that the individuals in the footage were simply practising yoga poses, including lying positions and relaxation movements. The authorities ruled out any suspicion of illicit substance use.
Authorities identified and arrested the Cairo-based student who published the clip. During interrogation, the student admitted to filming the group and sharing the video with false claims in a bid to increase views and online engagement.
