Value-Added Tax (VAT) revenues have generated more than BD1.7 billion for the Treasury since 2022, highlighting the critical role of indirect taxation in supporting Bahrain’s public finances.
The figures were disclosed by Finance and National Economy Minister Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa in a written response to a question by Parliament’s services committee vice-chairman Abdulwahid Qarata.
According to the ministry’s data, VAT collections reached BD547 million in 2022, increased to BD584m in 2023, and rose further to BD603m in 2024.
This steady year‑on‑year growth brought the total VAT revenue for the three-year period to BD1.734bn.
Shaikh Salman said the figures demonstrate the effectiveness of the regulatory and institutional framework adopted by the National Bureau for Revenue.
“The steady growth in VAT revenues reflects improved compliance, operational efficiency and the success of digital systems adopted by the bureau,” he said.
