A family caused chaos at a bank in KwaDukuza, South Africa, when they brought the body of a deceased relative into the branch as proof of death to claim a funeral insurance policy.
Social media footage captured the dramatic scene unfolding at a Capitec Bank branch on Wednesday morning. Relatives of the deceased were seen carrying a black body bag into the premises and leaving it on the floor near the counters, leading to the temporary closure of the branch.
Local media reports suggest the family took this drastic step out of frustration. They had reportedly been attempting to claim funds from a funeral policy held by their late relative, but bank officials had allegedly insisted on further proof of death before releasing the money.
Customers and staff were promptly evacuated from the building as local authorities arrived to manage the crowd that had gathered to witness the incident. Capitec Bank has since issued a statement expressing condolences and confirmed they are engaging with the relevant authorities to resolve the matter with "care, dignity, and respect."
