Organisers said they were giving out nearly 2,000 free meals to Muslims to break the fast and anyone in need.
This is the fifth time the event was held in Times Square.
“To be able to come here, feed people, especially if anyone is homeless, they can come here and get a free meal, you don’t have to be Muslim to eat. We break bread, we share bread, and we share good vibes, and that’s what's so beautiful about this event. So if you don’t know what Islam is, we’re here to, you know, try to lead by good example and spread the message of the Quran in a best way possible,” said attendee Myke Rook.
Tarawih is a prayer that Muslims perform during the month of Ramadan. Like other acts of worship, it is encouraged during this period.
Ramadan is also the time during which Muslims abstain from food, drink and other pleasures from sunrise to sunset as a means of cultivating gratitude and spiritual reflection.
