A community WhatsApp group, originally formed to share updates during the unprecedented Iran attacks in Bahrain, has come together for an unexpected mission: rescuing a critically-injured cat in Adliya, writes Carol Spencer.
Isak Kanchery, a 42-year-old life coach, was hunting for an apartment in the area when he noticed a severely wounded cat trailing behind him.
The animal had grave injuries to its lower body, and Mr Kanchery quickly realised that although the wound looked fresh it was beginning to show signs of infection.
“I didn’t know how to help at first,” he said.
“I called my wife to see if any of her friends had contacts. I also reached out to several vet clinics online, but many didn’t respond, while others said they couldn’t accept animals because of the ongoing situation.”
Feeling discouraged but unwilling to give up, the Juffair resident turned to the community WhatsApp group, posting videos of the cat in a final plea for assistance.
The response was immediate.
“One of the members called me and asked for the exact location. She arrived quickly and, together, we rescued the cat,” he said.
The kind-hearted woman, known as Hema, brought a carrier and purchased safety supplies and food from a nearby supermarket.
Working together, they safely contained the injured feline and rushed it to Four Paws Veterinary Clinic, where it is now receiving treatment.
Members of the WhatsApp group have since launched a fundraising effort to support the cat’s medical care, hoping it will make a full recovery and enjoy better days ahead.
Indian expatriate Mr Kanchery believes this is a purr-fect example of kindness in conflict.
