Mercedes has revealed its answer to the new BMW i3 with the electric C-Class.
The C-Class is one of the marque’s best-selling models and the electric iteration broadens its appeal further.
The electric C-Class will be equipped with a 94kWh battery pack and an electric motor that can return a claimed range of up to 473 miles on a single charge. Mercedes says that the car will benefit from 800-volt architecture, which will enable ultra-rapid charging speeds of up to 300kW, allowing 202 miles of range to be added in just 10 minutes.
The car boasts a coupe-esque exterior design, a front grille with 1,050 illuminated embedded dots and uses Mercedes’ star-shaped front headlights.
Mercedes has fitted the electric C-Class with rear-wheel steering, giving it an 11.2-metre turning circle to improve its manoeuvrability. It’s also available with the firm’s ‘AirMatic’ air suspension with predictive damping based on the on-board ‘Car-to-X’ system and Google Maps data; however, customers must download the ‘Mercedes me’ account to enable this feature to operate.
Inside, the cabin is dominated by a 39.1-inch Mercedes ‘MBUX Hyperscreen’, while the ‘Sky Control’ panoramic sunroof features 162 illuminated stars which can be selected depending on the setting set from the ambient lighting.
The electric C-Class also boasts a 101-litre frunk and has a towing capacity of up to 1,800kg.
