ASIAN BEACH GAMES – BAHRAIN’S senior men’s beach handball national team are back in action today against their counterparts from Iran at the sixth Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China.
The Bahrainis have so far won all three of their contests to date as they top Group A in their tournament’s preliminary round. They opened their medal bid with a 2-0 win over the host Chinese, and then overcame the Philippines 2-1 before cruising past Sri Lanka 2-0.
Their contest against the Iranians today is scheduled for an 11am start, Bahrain time.
Following the match, the nationals are set to complete the preliminaries with their final fixture against Hong Kong tomorrow at 6am, also Bahrain time.
The kingdom’s representatives are hoping to be amongst their division’s top two teams following this ongoing single round-robin to make it through to the semi-finals, which are scheduled for Tuesday.
The gold and bronze medal contests will then be held on Thursday later this week on the concluding day of this year’s Asian Beach Games.
Also today, Bahrain’s swimmers William Balzano and Robert Bonsall will be going for gold in the men’s five-kilometre race in open water swimming, which is being held under the sport of aquatics.
The pair are amongst 28 competitors who will be vying for a place on the podium in the event, which is scheduled for a 5am start, Bahrain time.
