Parliament committee pushes for cyclists to be licensed and registered
I think the real solution would be more bike lanes in the country. Licence won’t reduce the risk of accidents here. Some drivers just don’t look ahead, they are on phones and they don’t care.
@rocketfit.kris
I hope Bahrain will launch more bike lanes and walking paths.
@winelovesmeee
How about long jail sentences for people using their phone while driving instead!
@k_hardeman_tesar
Maybe you need to understand the sensitivity of the discussion here and not jump in to discuss matters which have already been and are taken care of. And yes, don’t interfere in government issues.
@imyth2022
How is saying that people who look at their phones while driving should be sentenced to a driving ban or jail time ‘interfering with government issues’?! Don’t be absurd.
Fining people who are wealthy will make zero difference to their behaviour – just like speeding fines. Maybe you need to understand the absolute urgency and gravity of the situation and that phone use while driving is endemic throughout the entire Middle East – and beyond – and precisely how many innocent lives have been lost. People walking, bicycles and in other cars, directly because of it, before you jump down my throat!
It’s a tragedy. Exactly how is it being taken care of in Bahrain? I’d love to know.
Driving bans and jail time – and not fines – are the only things that will prevent it. Bicycles (apart from people without helmets and lights who have to take some responsibility) are not just the problem. It’s mostly speeding drivers gazing at their phones.
@k_hardeman_tesar
At least 70 per cent of drivers on the road use phones and they don’t care about the rules, because there is not action from the authority.
@wollychef
I think bike lanes would help.
@susanpinto83
Cyclists often ride unpredictably, approaching from both directions and even against traffic, which puts them at serious risk. Many accidents happen because basic road sense and safety rules are not followed.
@nelsonmenezes9253
Licence plates will not solve the problem or protect cyclists from being hit by cars. What can make a real difference is enforcing the use of lights at night and helmets. Many sports bicycles are not even designed to carry licence plates. Stronger enforcement of traffic rules for drivers is also essential, as many still use mobile phones while driving or misuse the emergency lane.
@borisnajafov
I do agree with this proposal. It’s for the safety of the both cyclists and the vehicle drivers. (At least cyclists will ride carefully)
@navi_mendz
This is one of the most ridiculous proposals I’ve ever heard. No, we need bicycle/cart lanes. That would fix the accident problem.
@hesham.khalifa.khalfan
They don’t have lights on their bike.
