HANDBALL – AL Shabab were confirmed yesterday as the bronze-medallists of the 2025-26 Khalid Bin Hamad Bahrain Handball League.
This was announced last night by the Bahrain Handball Federation (BHF) after receiving an official letter from Al Najma, who apologised for not being able to compete in the game for third place, which was scheduled to be held this evening at Khalifa Sports City Arena in Isa Town.
Shabab and Najma were set to clash in the one-off contest. They were the top two seeds at the end of the league’s regular season, but both missed out on places in the final after losing their respective best-of-three Golden Square semis series in two-game sweeps. Najma, who were last year’s title winners, bowed to fourth seeds Barbar, while Shabab were ousted by third-ranked Al Ahli.
The BHF said that, according to league rules, Najma’s forfeit automatically awards the victory to Shabab, who will now join Ahli and Barbar on the league podium this season.
Meanwhile, the BHF has announced the start time for tomorrow’s title-decider between Ahli and Barbar.
The game is scheduled for a 7pm throw-off, and it will also be held at Khalifa Sports City Arena.
According to statistics made available by the BHF, Ahli will be gunning for their record 20th league crown while Barbar will be playing for their seventh title.
Ahli last triumphed in the 2015-16 season, while Barbar previously won in the 2018-19 campaign.
