HANDBALL – BAHRAIN’S junior men’s handball national team missed out on the bronze medals yesterday as the 19th Asian Men’s Junior Handball Championship came to a close in Chuzhou, China.
The nationals lost their game for third place against Gulf neighbours Saudi Arabia 27-37 to come up short in their bid to climb the podium.
The Bahrainis, nonetheless, did not come away from the competition empty-handed. Not only did they secure their berth in next year’s 26th IHF Men’s U21 Handball World Championship in North Macedonia by finishing in the top four, they also saw Ahmed Eid come away with an individual award after being named onto the All-Star Team as Left Wing.
Eid was presented with an award for his achievement.
South Korea were crowned champions after edging past the UAE 25-24 in the hotly contested final.
Following play, the closing and awarding ceremony was held. In attendance was Bahrain Olympic Committee member and Bahrain Handball Federation president Ali Issa Eshaqi, who is also an Asian Handball Federation vice-president.
