The International Organisation for Press and Media, based in the Netherlands, has announced the launch of the International Centre for Combating Media Disinformation (ICCMD), the first independent, non-profit international Arab centre dedicated to tackling media disinformation.
The centre will be chaired by Bahrain Journalists’ Association chairman Isa Al Shaiji.
The initiative aims to promote media integrity, foster a culture of fact-checking and address the growing challenges of media disinformation in the digital age.
The organisation’s secretary-general, Sultan Al Housani, said the centre will serve as an international platform bringing together Arab and international media expertise to develop research and professional standards, build institutional capacity and strengthen co-operation among media organisations, academic institutions and research centres.
The centre’s board of directors includes a distinguished group of media leaders from Bahrain, Morocco, Oman, Jordan, the UAE, and Kuwait.
Mr Al Shaiji said the centre will focus on developing professional solutions to combat disinformation, producing research and studies, delivering specialised training programmes and establishing regional and international partnerships that promote a culture of verification and enhance public confidence in media content.
