BASKETBALL – ALBA’s women’s 3x3 basketball team were crowned overall champions of the Bahrain Summer Tour 2026 for women, played over the weekend at Sports City 26 in Exhibition World Bahrain (EWB).
Alba’s quartet of Aya Kamali, Marian Samir Owais, Shirin Madwar, and Mariam Jawad secured their title after edging past a battling Hawar 18-16 in the competition’s final.
Hawar’s foursome consisted of Noor Najaf, JaMya Robinson, Ninel Merkotun, and Polina Sviatskaia.
The event marked the curtain-closer of this year’s summer tour for women. Alba’s triumph wrapped up their sensational campaign in the series, having won both of the preliminary rounds leading-up to the finale.
Following play, Alba were presented their awards by Sports City 26 tournaments director Aysha Ahmadi and Bahrain Basketball Association board member Noor Hussain.
Earlier in the tournament, Alba booked their place in the championship-decider after cruising past Askar 21-12 in the semi-finals. Hawar were just as dominant in a 21-7 victory against Al Najma.
Previously, in the elite eight, Askar ousted Alba B 19-7 while Najma defeated Tera 12-9 to go through.
The event began with 10 teams in action, divided into three groups for the preliminary stage.
Alba topped Pool A with two wins – a 22-2 rout of Ole and a 15-10 victory against Najma. Najma beat Ole 18-3 in the other divisional clash.
Hawar took the top spot in Pool B. They won 21-3 against Triple Trouble and then outplayed Alba B with a similar 21-3 score line. Alba B triumphed against Triple Trouble 13-7 in their head-to-head.
Tera secured first place in the four-team Pool C after taking all three of their assignments. They opened their campaign by battling past Askar 12-9, and then won 13-4 against Paramedics. They then eked out a 14-13 result against Fireballs to complete the sweep of their group games. Askar finished second on the table with wins against Fireballs and Paramedics, who followed in third and with Fireballs last.
The women’s competition on this year’s Bahrain Summer Tour 2026 was held alongside the men’s series, which featured three preliminary events ahead of their grand finale.
Fiba 3x3 World Tour squad Seef captured the overall crown for the men.
With the completion of the summer tour, the stage is now set for the second edition of the Bahrain 3x3 Basketball League for the kingdom’s clubs will tip off on Saturday.
The men’s competition offers more than $8,000 in total prize money, and it is to be held as part of the BBA’s efforts to promote the 3x3 game and expand its player base in the kingdom.
The league will feature six rounds, culminating with a final meeting on September 25.
Samaheej A were the winners of the inaugural edition of the Bahrain 3x3 Basketball League played last season.
