BASKETBALL – The opening game of the 2026-27 Bahrain Basketball Association (BBA) Cup between Samaheej and Al Najma, which was to be played last night at the BBA Arena in Um Al Hassam Sports Complex, was postponed.
The BBA Cup is the opening national competition for the 2026-27 season, and it features 10 of the kingdom’s top basketball clubs.
They have been divided into two groups for the preliminary phase.
Samaheej and Najma are in Group A along with Muharraq, Al Hala, and Al Ettihad, while Group B features Manama, Al Ahli, Nuwaidrat, Sitra, and Isa Town.
Following a double round-robin, the top four teams move on to the single-game semi-finals, which will then determine the two teams that will lock horns for this season’s BBA Cup title.
The final will also be held as a single affair, according to the BBA’s tournament format.
The BBA did not announce yesterday whether the Samaheej-Najma postponement affects the remainder of this week’s schedule in the tournament.
Ettihad and Hala are set to face off tonight, while Isa Town and Manama battle tomorrow.
Sitra and Nuwaidrat then go head-to-head on Thursday.
All games are slated for 7.45pm tip-offs at the same venue.
Ahead of the start of the 2026-27 BBA Cup, the BBA also unveiled the competition’s new official logo – a move the BBA aims to give the tournament a distinct visual identity that reflects its status amongst the kingdom’s national championships.
