Ways to develop partnerships between the GCC and European countries in energy security, digital transformation, innovation and sustainable development, and enhance engagement among government institutions, business communities and think tanks on both sides were discussed yesterday.
Assigned by His Majesty King Hamad, Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani participated in a dialogue session organised by the Atlantic Council in co-operation with the Europe-Gulf Forum.
The session, ‘Fostering Gulf-Europe Partnerships for Regional Security and Prosperity’, was held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The discussion also addressed key political, security and economic challenges facing the region and the world.
Participants highlighted the importance of continued dialogue and co-ordination between the Gulf and Europe, supporting diplomatic efforts to resolve conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy, and advancing security, peace and shared prosperity.
Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York Jamal Fares Al Rowaie and Foreign Ministry’s chief of the co-ordination and follow-up sector Saeed Abdulkhaliq Saeed were present.
Dr Al Zayani also participated in the ministerial meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.
The meeting was co-chaired by Saudi Arabia, the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee, the European Union and Norway, with the participation of foreign ministers and representatives of member states and regional and international organisations.
Dr Al Zayani thanked Saudi Arabia, Norway and the EU for organising the meeting, which reflects international commitment to advancing the two-state solution as the path toward a just, comprehensive and lasting peace.
He affirmed that the Palestinian cause remains a top priority for Bahrain, reiterating its support for the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent and sovereign state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The minister stressed that Bahrain will continue, during its membership of the UN Security Council, to advance political solutions, uphold international law, protect civilians and ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
He also underscored the importance of fully implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2803 (2025), supporting recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, and creating conditions for a serious political process toward implementing the two-state solution.
He affirmed Bahrain’s support for the Board of Peace, chaired by US President Donald Trump, as an important framework for consolidating the ceasefire, ensuring humanitarian assistance, supporting Gaza’s reconstruction, and advancing a political process toward sustainable peace.
He said Bahrain looks forward to the Board of Peace working with the United Nations and international partners to translate international consensus into practical steps, including strengthening Palestinian state institutions and supporting recovery and reconstruction.
Dr. Al Zayani stressed that addressing the root causes of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is essential to regional security and stability, and that sustainable peace requires a just and lasting resolution based on the two-state solution.
