Bogota, Colombia: An airplane crash in Colombia has killed 76 people, the vast majority of the 81 passengers and crew who were on board the plane, the Colombian police said early on Tuesday.
The plane was carrying players, coaches and staff from the Brazilian soccer team Chapecoense, as well as journalists set to covering the team's match in the Sudamericana final, South America's equivalent of the Europa League.
Colombian police say that five people have survived a plane crash near Medellin's international airport and the rest of the passengers have been killed.
One of the survivors was Alan Ruschel, a defender for the Chapecoense Real, which was to have played in a final of the Copa Sudamericana tomorrow against a Colombian team, the head of Colombia's civil aviation agency, Alfredo Bocanegra, told reporters.
