BAHRAIN’S top netballers are in training since mid-January honing their skills ahead of the 31st Inter-Gulf Netball Championships to be held at Dubai’s Seven’s Stadium on March 10 and 11.
This championship is the only international platform for netball players in the Middle East to showcase their skills. It attracts over 250 of the best players from around the Gulf for two days of highly competitive play.
Teams from Dubai, Al Ain, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar and Fujairah will attend this year’s event along with three teams representing Bahrain – the ‘A’ team, the Vets and Bahrain Youth.
The Bahrain ‘A’ and Vets squads will be supported by England coaches Gilly Salter and Sue Wainwright while the Bahrain Youth team is coached by Kate Elsworth.
“I am extremely excited to be working with the Bahrain Youth team. In last years’ tournament we made it to the final of the Bowl competition in the social pool, and the girls have been working really hard to better their achievement,” said Elsworth.
Salter and Wainwright prepared the Bahrain teams in January in an exhausting four-day ‘Boot Camp’ to enhance the skills and stamina.
The teams:
Bahrain ‘A’: Claire van Minnen, Amani Al Asfoor, Cayla Harris, Hilary Johnston, Charlotte Collinson, Kianna Legg, Rama Salem, Danita Hampel, Maya Taylor and Martine Timmer-Arends.
Bahrain Youth: Abigail Knapton, Cameron Icelli, Charlotte Newman, Chloe Atkinson, Ellie Bury, Hannah Mottram, Natalie Myatt, Olivia Wilson, Razan Al Musawi and Tamara Salem.
Bahrain Vets: Katy Brand, Jeannine Wessels, Kirsten Blore, Laura Whitehall, Jo Mannings, Khulood Al Sabah, Carol Woodrow, Faezeh Faiz Fakhroo, Sharon Gerrard, Leanne Simms and Dee Fernando.
