MORE than 100 restaurants operating without a tourist licence have been referred to the Public Prosecution between 2015 and last month, it has emerged.
Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed Al Zayani told MPs in writing that the figure had reached 130.
He said 52 also faced administrative action ranging from the cancellation, suspension and non-renewal of tourist licences.
“There are 99 hotel restaurants with tourist facility licences, besides several lounges, club lounges and cafés and they are being inspected by five inspectors with judicial authorities and we are planning to recruit more,” he said.
He revealed the executive office of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been reformed and not dissolved and the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission has granted the issue the go-ahead.
On the other hand, Parliament and Shura Council Affairs Minister Ghanim Al Buainain, who is politically in charge of the Civil Service Bureau, said the reinstated annual pay rise through a Cabinet decision earlier in the year for civil servants will cost the government around BD7.9m until the end of the year with average monthly spending of BD656,246.
