Dubai: Recently many people in UAE have been receiving emails from a United States based company, telling them that they are the lucky winners to get millions from Prince Al Waleed charity.
Saudi billionaire Prince Al Waleed bin Talal’s recently decided to pledge $32 billion to charity.
This charity announcement of his became a source for internet scammers to take people for a ride.
According to a report in Emirates247, an Abu Dhabi resident received an email congratulating him for being chosen to receive $3.2 billion.
To receive the amount he was asked to send his personal details like his ID copy, full name, place and date of birth, country and city of residence, phone number and very surprisingly his ‘favourite colour’.
The email message went like this , “Congratulations… our distributional strength and reputation comes from our ability to fully understand the broader secure requirements of an assignee and the key procedure that needs to be taken to ensure fast and legal process that is not contrary to your country policy subsequently”.
“As a preferred and concerned clearance office for this donation to a range of specific winners involves to undergo secure payment of $ 3.2 million. The funds benefit is part of the donation made by Prince Alwaleed bin Talal donating his entire $32 billion fortune, announced on 1st of July 2015.”
UAE police have asked his citizens to be wary of such scams which involve sending your bank account details.
