The GCC has called on Iran to immediately end targeting Gulf states, their interests and their citizens.
Iran is fully responsible for the attacks and their consequences for regional security, international navigation and energy supplies, according to a statement issued after a meeting of GCC foreign ministers in Manama yesterday.
The ministerial council condemned in the strongest terms the drone and ballistic missile attacks launched by Iran against Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan.
The council described the attacks as a blatant violation of the sovereignty of the three countries and a threat to the security of their peoples.
The attacks also breach international law, the Charter of the United Nations and the principles of good neighbourliness, it said.
It said the attacks undermine trust, sow discord and hinder efforts to promote dialogue and understanding between peoples.
It stressed that aggression does not build relations and intimidation does not create stability.
The council expressed its full solidarity with Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan and emphasised that the security of GCC member states is indivisible.
The ministers stressed that any attack against one member state is an attack against all GCC countries.
The council said GCC joint defence capabilities and air defence systems were confronting the attacks with a high level of efficiency and readiness and underlined the right of member states to defend themselves individually and collectively in accordance with Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations.
The council also called on the United Nations Security Council and the international community to condemn the attacks and hold those responsible accountable in a manner that safeguards regional and international peace and security.
The statement emphasised the GCC states’ commitment to peace, good neighbourliness and diplomatic solutions to disputes.
The ministers stressed that continued aggression undermines efforts to build trust and dialogue.
