A BAHRAINI woman has been named second runner-up in the Miss Arab World beauty pageant.
Fawzia Abdulreza Nadhar, 22, was among 16 finalists who vied for the Miss Arab World 2018 title, which was held in Cairo, Egypt.
She came in third following runner-up Rania bin Ashoush from Algeria and winner Sherine Hossni from Morocco.
The business student at the American College of Dubai represented Bahrain in the competition, which spanned over 10 days, taking part in fashion shows, a cookery contest and Press interviews where she discussed and reacted to current affairs.
While pursuing a business degree, Ms Nadhar was doing modelling work on a part-time scale leading to her participation in the competition.
This year, the pageant’s jury consisted of Kuwaiti personality and television presenter Haleema Boland, Egyptian artist Mohamed Nour and Miss Arab World organiser Hanan Nasr, among others.
Ms Nadhar, who was taking part in her first beauty pageant, was declared second runner-up only two days after the announcement of her official designation as Miss Bahrain.
“My reasons for joining Miss Arab World were two-fold; first, Bahrain is a wonderful country but doesn’t always receive the recognition it deserves, therefore, I wanted to have the opportunity to represent Bahrain and promote it,” said Ms Nadhar.
“Second, I was hoping that by participating in this beauty contest it would lend publicity to my perfume business.”
She added that taking part in the pageant was one of the “proudest moments” of her life, and highlighted that contestants were not judged solely on their physical appearance but on their professional and moral conduct as well.
