Dubai – A Ukrainian businessman has been sentenced to a month in prison for possessing over 150 sex toys and trying to sell them using social media.
The accused promoted them on a special group on Facebook. The Dubai Police’s economic crimes section were alerted by an informant, who was used later in a sting operation by posing as a client to capture the businessman.
The police raided the accused’s flat after the deal was made and arrested the suspect, more than 150 sex toys were found in his flat, all imported from China by courier with the intention of selling them in the UAE.
The businessman and his partner were charged with possessing items of pornographic and sexual nature and illegally promoting them on social media. They both pleaded not guilty, however the businessman admitted that after eight years of living in the UAE, he needed the money so he started importing the toys and promoting them online.
He later retracted his confession, and claimed that the sex toys are for his personal use, according to the Gulf News.
The court sentenced the businessman to one month in jail followed by deportation.
His accomplice was fined Dh10,000.
