Dubai - A foreign beggar was caught in the city of Dubai during the Eid Fitr with the sum of AED 100,000, reported albayan.
The Asian man, who is in his fifties, entered the United Arab Emirates a month ago on a visit visa.
The police caught him on the first eid day, on Friday, during Dhohr prayer and seized ADE 25, before discovering AED45,000 in one of his artificial legs.
“Other sums of money in various denominations were also seized”, said According to Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police for Criminal Investigation Affairs.
The Dubai stepped up the clampdown and caught a total of 243 beggars from different nationalities - 136 men and 107 women.
Maj.Gen. Al-Mansouri said 195 of the beggars who were arrested arrived in the UAE on visit visa, 48 have valid residencies, while the others pretended to be businessmen.
