BAHRAIN’S Sameera Al Bitar finished an impressive 13th among 22 participants in the women’s triathlon yesterday at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta.
Sameera completed the event in a total time of two hours, 21 minutes and 48 seconds.
She took 21 minutes and 11 seconds to finish the opening 1.5-km swim, one hour eight minutes and four seconds for the 40km cycling and 51 minutes and 35 seconds for the concluding 10km run.
“One goal in mind this morning was to safely cross the finish line,” said the 28-year-old on her Instagram account after the race.
Yuko Takahashi of Japan won the gold in 1:59.29 while Mengying Zhong of China claimed the silver in 2:01.16 and Long Hoi of Macau the bronze in 2:01.28.

Eighteen-year-old Omar Ali will represent Bahrain in the men’s triathlon today, starting 3.30am Bahrain time.
Meanwhile, Bahraini sailor Abdulla Janahi finished eighth among 16 competitors in the Laser Standard fleet.
Janahi signed off taking fifth place in the 12th and final race yesterday with 79 net points.
South Korea’s Jeemin Ha won the gold with 21.8 net points, Khairulnizam Mohd Afendy of Malaysia the silver with 23 net points and Jun Han Ryan Lo of Singapore the bronze, also on 23 net points.
Bahrain’s Murtaz Ali will take part in today’s martial art of Sambo. The 22-year-old takes on Aibol Aitbek of Kazakhstan in the under-90kg round of 32.
Ali arrived in Jakarta three days ago and has been training under coach Eldar Eldarov.
