Nigerian Uche Agba scored a double as Riffa crushed Manama 4-0 at the start of Nasser bin Hamad Football Premier League held at Bahrain National Stadium last night.
In the only other opening day match held at Al Ahli Club Stadium, Al Shabab and Budaiya settled for a goalless draw.
Riffa played like a well-oiled machine throughout, thanks to their new local and foreign players who proved too much to handle for Manama.
Agba received a fine pass from Kumail Al Aswad before firing a powerful shot into the top net of Manama goalkeeper Ashraf Waheed for his first goal just four minutes from the start. His second and Riffa’s fourth goal came late in the second half as they went on to wrap up the match and earn three points.
For his heroics, Agba was named man of the match.
In the second half, Riffa surprised Manama with a goal just three minutes from the start through Kumail Al Aswad, who got a timely pass from Agba, as the former sent the ball into the left side of the goalkeeper.
They made it 3-0 in the 68th minute through Hamad Shamsan, who headed into the net after a fine cross from Al Aswad.
Meanwhile, one match is scheduled for today as Al Hala take on East Riffa at 6pm at Bahrain National Stadium.
