Manama: Ministers and senior officials from around the world yesterday said that Bahrain is setting a wonderful and outstanding model in fostering tolerance and peaceful coexistence as well as accepting doctrinal diversity and religious freedom.
In a statement, they praised the kingdom’s active participation in the UN General Assembly activities.
They were speaking on the sidelines of their visit to Bahrain exhibition on tolerance, organised by This is Bahrain Society in cooperation with the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence at the UN headquarters, in New York.
They described the event as an opportunity to showcase the pioneering initiatives of His Majesty King Hamad to promote coexistence and harmony.
Egyptian Health Minister Dr Hala Zayed said Bahrain relates a beautiful story about peaceful coexistence, setting a model to follow in the Arab region and the Middle East.
She praised Bahrain exhibition on tolerance which highlights the role of the King in boosting noble humanitarian values of tolerance and coexistence at the local and international level.
She expressed appreciation of a photo in the exhibition in which the King was standing in the middle of Al Azhar Al Sharif Grand Imam and other religious clerics. She described the photo as a reflection of Bahrain’s civilised and unique experience at the regional and international level.
The Egyptian Health Minister stressed that harmony between religions represents a golden opportunity for the world to adopt this outstanding experience.
She also pointed out that doctrinal conflicts are categorically unacceptable and can be curbed by emulating the Bahraini model of boosting patriotism through tolerance and acceptance of the other.
UN Resident Coordinator Amine Sharqawi congratulated This is Bahrain Society and the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence for their active participation in the UN General Assembly’s activities. He lauded the lofty values adopted by Bahrain to promote peace and fast-track sustainable development.
Goodwill Ambassador to Haiti Hugues Sanon said every king who gives power to citizens is a wise king who likes the spirit of development and prosperity for his country and people.
He hailed the efforts of His Majesty to foster religious tolerance and achieve comprehensive peace. He added that Bahrain’s experience has to be generalised in the Middle East and other places to curb tensions caused by fanaticism and extremism.
Belgian Health Minister Maggie De Block also hailed Bahrain as an outstanding model of tolerance.
