Dubai: Canadian boxer Cody Nixon was among four people who were killed in the fatal Ferrari car crash on Sunday.
A day before the accident, the boxer had posted an Instagram picture of himself with a rented Ferrari 458 Spider, telling his followers he would not speed, reported Al Arabia.
Upon his arrival in Dubai, he had donned Emirati national dress and posed inside the yellow Ferrari. The caption read: “Just landed and picked up the Ferrari! Don’t worry I won’t speed ;)”
The accident occurred near Dubai's Jumeirah Lake Tower at around 12.40 am on Sunday, according to Director of Dubai Traffic Police Colonel Saif Muhair al-Mazroui.
"We received a report of an accident on al-Sarayat road near Jumeirah Lake Towers, where a car swerved, hit the curb and the driver lost control and hit a lamp post," Col. Mazroui reportedly said.
Also, a young woman, who reportedly survived in the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013, died in the ill-fated car crash.
She has been identified as Northeastern University student Victoria McGrath.
Another victim of the Sunday night car crash was identified as Priscilla Perez Torres.
Police are still investigating the Ferrari car crash.
Earlier Dubai Traffic Police Chief Colonel Saif Al Mazroui had stated the motorists were driving at high speed even as the speed limit in the area is 60kmph.
Al Mazroui added the car veered off the road and hit the pavement before hitting lamppost on the street, causing the car to break into two halves.
