India has announced a schedule of flights to repatriate its nationals stranded abroad amidst the outbreak of the coronavirus (Covid-19).
According to the flight plan by the Ministry of External Affairs, 64 flights will be sent to a dozen countries to repatriate students and blue-collar workers, among others, from abroad.
The flights will be sent to the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Malaysia, the UK, Singapore, Bangladesh, the Philippines and the US from Thursday (May 7).
The maximum number of flights - 15 - will be for residents of Kerala, followed by Delhi-National Capital Region and Tamil Nadu (11 each), Maharashtra and Telangana (seven each), Gujarat (five), Jammu and Kashmir and Karnataka (three each), and Punjab and Uttar Pradesh (one each).
The first flight from Bahrain is scheduled for the second day of the phased evacuation, Friday (May 8).
Approximately, 200 people are expected to fly to Cochin, Kerala from Manama on the day.
As per the plan announced for the first week, a second flight from Manama will be on the fifth day, carrying nearly 200 passengers to Kozhikode.
