A total of 355,000 tonnes of construction and demolition waste was recycled last year, slashing the overall quantity dumped at Askar Landfill by 52 per cent.
According to figures released by the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry, construction and demolition waste reached 677,000 tonnes last year, making up 38pc of the overall waste which stood at 1.8 million tonnes.
Domestic waste accounted for 32pc (566,000 tonnes, followed by commercial and industrial waste (24pc - 424,000 tonnes) and farming waste (7pc - 126,000 tonnes).
