THE century-old Qalali Folk Band will be performing traditional Bahraini songs today as part of the 2020 Bahrain Summer Festival.
The band, set up in the Muharraq village of Qalali, has over the years showcased Bahrain’s heritage by participating in local and international musical events.
Members perform authentic songs, dances and rhythms that revolve around Bahrain’s rich history connected to the pearl-diving industry and marine history.
Meanwhile, a special workshop, ‘Missoula Theatre’, will also commence today with a five-day programme until Thursday in collaboration with the US Embassy.
The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) will present Robin Hood with the programme packed full of innovative activities such as costume and set design using household items with children sharing their 20-minute recorded plays for a chance to win Best Performance accolade.
Playdate director Adam Ferguson, former director of Robin Hood Kelsey Harrison, and tour production associate Kelsey Seals will present a series of workshops on video to train the children in role-playing and performing auditions for three hours a day, from 6-9pm.
Interested children can attend the workshops on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqvaBntRljuh1CWhDPAQmJg
MCT is an American non-profit organisation focused on the important role the arts play in all communities.
A special virtual tour of Bahrain National Museum in the company of Nakhool and Nakhoola will also be offered today starting with an overview of the museum’s history and excavation missions in Bahrain.
The kingdom’s entire history – starting from the prehistoric age to modern time – will be covered as the tour goes through various halls including a temporary exhibition hall featuring local and international exhibitions.
An in-depth talk discussing the Dilmun civilisation’s various burial methods will also be given in the Hall of Graves with the virtual tour ending at Bu Maher Fort.
The festival is being organised by Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities under the theme ‘Virtually Together’ this year, in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.
