Marilyn Monroe's mother Gladys Baker was mentally unstable and financially unable to take care of her. Hence, Marilyn lived with foster parents until she was 7.
Her mother who tried to get her back suffered a nervous breakdown and was hospitalised. Her mother's best friend Grace McKee became her legal guardian which only lasted for a few years.
Marilyn made rounds of orphanage and series of foster homes before finally returning to Grace McKee's home.
