Janet Jackson recently announced that she would release a new album this year in a first since the death of her brother Michael. The album is slated to release this fall, and will come out on Rhythm Nation Records, which is owned by Jackson. The singer has also partnered with Bertelsmann Music for the release. "The partnership with BMG makes Janet Jackson the biggest worldwide superstar yet to quit the traditional record label system for a so-called artist services deal, designed to put artists in the driving seat," the group said in a statement. "Unlike a traditional record deal, under an artist services deal the artist retains ownership of their recordings and full oversight of all costs and revenues.
She briefly retreated from public view to grieve after Michael Jackson died in 2009, but has since returned to acting and went on an 80-date tour in 2011 to promote a greatest hits collection. In 2012, she quietly married Qatari tycoon Wissam Al Mana.
