Women-owned businesses make up 39 per cent of the firms which benefited from Export Bahrain’s assistance to reach the international markets.
Exports Operations chief Fatima Rostem said the assistance provided to these businesses topped $74 million.
She revealed the figures during a Ramadan majlis, hosted remotely by the Supreme Council for Women.
She said half of the companies owned and run by Bahraini businesswomen succeeded in entering more than 21 international markets with the help of Export Bahrain, despite the fallout of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Overall, women-owned firms have so far exported their products to 51 countries in the region and the world. These include Canada, Mexico, Seychelles, Tanzania, Brazil and New Zealand, in addition to the main export markets in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait and Jordan.
These firms operate mainly in food industries, textile, cosmetics and interior design. A Bahraini businesswoman exports her locally-produced handbags to New Zealand.
Export Bahrain is a platform that offers export-focused solutions including financing, credit insurance as well as training and knowledge sharing. It has so far achieved a Bahrainisation rate of more than 80pc.
