MANAMA: Bahraini athlete Salem Nasser Bakheet died in a road accident in Hunainiya, Riffa, yesterday.
The accident happened when he lost control of his car and crashed into a railing.
Bahrain Athletics Association mourned his death and paid tribute to his rich record of achievements as a player and administrator.
Mr Bakheet served athletics in the kingdom for more than 25 years, it said.
Specialised in high jump, he won a silver medal in the 2020 Asian Athletics Champion-ships as well as other rankings and medals in Gulf, Arab and Asian competitions.
Mr Bahkeet became an administrator after retirement and accompanied national teams to various Olympic games and Asian, Arab and Gulf tournaments as well as training camps abroad.
