MANAMA: A major international conference that would bring global personalities and businesses to Bahrain is scheduled to be held early next year.
Organisers of the International Friends of Bahrain Conference 2022, including the Ambassador Partnership and the Diplomat Business Club, say due to the prevailing Covid-19 situation they are in discussions with relevant authorities in the kingdom following the decision to hold the conference in the country.
This follows the announcement by the Ambassador Partnership appointing retired diplomat Javed Malik as the regional director for Middle East and Asia.
Established over a decade ago in London, the Ambassador Partnership comprises fifty former ambassadors and diplomats from the UK, Europe, the Americas and Asia who have served in more than 100 countries.
Mr Malik’s appointment is tied to the partnership’s plans to expand operations in the Middle East and South Asia with a view to engaging more closely with governments and the private sector.
Announcing the decision, James Watt, the former British Ambassador to Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan, said: “The Ambassador Partnership regards the Middle East and South Asia as an important region for us and we are looking forward to working closely with governments and the private sector to explore ways that promote regional economic cooperation, corporate diplomacy and dispute resolution, and we are pleased to appoint Mr Malik as our regional director who has served in the Middle East for several years.”
Mr Malik is a former Pakistani ambassador to Bahrain and was Pakistan’s special envoy based in the Gulf region for several years.
He is also the president of Diplomat Business Club which organises major conferences to promote business, trade and investment opportunities.
Paying tribute to His Majesty King Hamad and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister for their dynamic leadership, Mr Malik said: “Bahrain has established itself as a regional hub for business, trade, investment, trade and international events. The Ambassador Partnership is poised to work closely with the public and private sector to explore common synergies that promote economic activity and facilitate trade and investment into the region. We are already in discussions with potential associates to organise events in the post-Covid-19 world.”
