AROUND 95 per cent of all traffic accidents in Bahrain are minor, with 86pc of them ending in mutual reconciliation, revealed a top official.
Traffic Directorate legal affairs head Major Khaled Buqais also highlighted that 40pc of road-users have switched to reporting minor accidents via the eTraffic app since services were launched on July 25.
Details were revealed during an Instagram live session organised by the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA) and the General Traffic Directorate.
He added that minor traffic accidents – involving property, motorcycles and bicycles – will be handled by insurance companies provided parties reach an agreement.
“The new system provides an electronic link between the directorate and insurance companies,” he said.
“The Traffic Accidents Services includes four categories for the benefit of citizens, residents and GCC visitors – ‘report traffic accidents’, ‘traffic accident acknowledgement’, ‘view reported traffic accidents’ and ‘insurance company locator’.
“The parties must be in agreement when reporting an accident and there must be no injuries.
“If the affected driver is the one reporting, the other driver must admit fault via the ‘traffic accident acknowledgment’ service on the eTraffic app.
“If the driver responsible for the accident is the one reporting, it is considered a declaration of fault and all parties must visit the insurance company of that driver within 48 hours.”
The services can be accessed on the eTraffic app, or the national portal, bahrain.bh
