ENDURANCE HORSERACING – BAHRAIN’S Royal Endurance Team enjoyed a sensational performance in the Kristinehamnsritten endurance meeting in Sweden, winning three of the rides amidst a wide participation of top riders from around the world.
Taking victories for the kingdom’s squad were Khalifa Jamal Alsendi on Be Goode in the 160-kilometre race, Loay Tareq Ahmed on Jm Lirevoltulm in the 120km ride, and Nayef Mubarak Sabt on Jm Jersika in the 120km juniors’ race.
Kristinehamnsritten is a prestigious endurance horseracing competition held annually at the Swedish municipality of Kristinehamn.
The Royal Endurance Team had 22 riders entered in the meet’s various categories, which were all Concours d’Endurance International (CEI) races approved by the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI).
Also taking part were riders from Denmark, Finland, Norway, South Africa, and hosts Sweden.
Alsendi and Be Goode triumphed in the 160km ride in a time of eight hours 46 minutes and 28 seconds. The race was divided into five stages, alternating with 40km and 30km legs before finishing with a 20km stage.
Alsendi finished just over a half-minute ahead of fellow-Royal Endurance Team member Mohamed Abdulsamad Al Bastaki, who was competing on Gengo Folie. They finished in 8:47:09, well ahead of Norway’s Olaug Espeli Carstensen on Litlemos Malika, who completed the podium in 9:22:45.
In the 120km ride, Ahmed and Jm Lirevoltulm completed the four stage event – which opened with a 40km leg and was followed by two 30km stages before a 20km finish – in 6:44:17.
They were joined in the top three by Royal Endurance Team rider Mohamed Abdulrahman Alsaad on Sw Izquiulm, who was just six seconds behind. Sabina Rapp from Sweden, riding Lillysza, took third place in 8:07:47.
Meanwhile, Sabt triumphed in the 120km juniors’ event to make it three victories for the Royal Endurance Team. He steered Jm Jersika to the finish in 7:12:20 after four stages of 40km, 30km, 30km, and 20km.
