HORSERACING – TACHOS claimed a sensational victory in the Dublin to Bahrain Fillies Handicap at Leopardstown Racecourse in Ireland.
The event marked the fourth leg of this year’s Dublin to Bahrain Race Series, and it was the final race before the Group One Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes.
Tachos triumphed in the eight-furlong ride amongst a quality field of eight runners and took close to 15,000 Euros in prize money.
Owned by Calvin G Ryan, the five-year-old bay mare, trained by D K Weld, was ridden by jockey Chris Hayes. They were prominent at the start and pushed along well two furlongs out. Tachos maintained her strong pace while holding on to the lead one furlong from the finish, and narrowly triumphed by a head from runner-up Thrifty Of Digby, competing for owner P Harty, trainer Mrs John Harrington, and jockey Shane Foley. Taking third was Bella Colombia, racing for COR Racing Syndicate, W McCreery, and Ben Coen.
Completing the classification from fourth through eighth, respectively, were Glory To Be, Marmeladova, Pink Oxalis, Mallavelly, and Duchess Of Kenli.
The Dublin to Bahrain Race Series is in its fourth edition in 2026, and it features multiple events at Leopardstown contested by top-class horses from around the world.
Earlier winners from this year’s series included Loughrea in the 0-90 Dublin to Bahrain Handicap, competing for owner Mrs C Holohan and trainer Andrew Slattery, whose son Andrew Joseph Slattery was the jockey; Dark Viper in the Dublin to Bahrain Race Series Handicap, racing for Dan Kiely, Mrs John Harrington, and Shane Foley; and Isaac Newton in the Group Three Bahrain Turf Club Desmond Stakes, racing for Derrick Smith/Mrs John Magnier/Michael Tabor/Westerberg, Aidan O’Brien, Ryan Moore.
The Group One Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes will be held on September 12 at Leopardstown. It will be a part of the day one programme of the Irish Champions Festival, and it will be held over 10 furlongs, with a number of top horses from around the world expected to take part.
Previous editions were won by Delacroix last year and Economics in 2024.
