HORSERACING – VICTORIOUS Forever contender Senorita Bonita claimed a sensational win yesterday in the Group One Sumbe Prix Morny at Deauville-La Touques Racecourse in France.
The two-year-old chestnut filly showcased an electric turn of foot to triumph in the six-furlong race and pocket close to £175,000 in prize money for her connections.
The result continued the outstanding achievements this international horseracing season for the Victorious Forever stable, owned by His Majesty King Hamad’s humanitarian works and youth affairs representative, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman, and Bahrain Royal Endurance Team captain Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Trained by Simon and Ed Crisford, Senorita Bonita was ridden yesterday by jockey Oisin Murphy.
They started the ride at the back of the seven-runner field but stayed in touch with the leaders. Senorita Bonita then put in a stunning charge to the front heading into the closing stages and led in the final 110 yards.
She won with a dominant gap of four lengths from runner-up Carry The Flag, competing for owners Smith, Magnier, Tabor, Westerberg, Brant, trainer AP O’Brien, and jockey Ronan Whelan. Kosuma finished third for Wertheimer and Frere, A and L Fabre, and Maxime Guyon.
Rounding out the race’s classification from fourth through seventh, respectively, were Man’s Best Friend, Drazinda, Orthodox, and Tribeca.
