A TAILOR has appeared in court charged with sexually assaulting a female customer inside a shop.
His alleged Bahraini 20-year-old victim accused him of groping her while whispering ‘very good and round’ in her ear as he took her measurements in Manama in July.
The 36-year-old Bangladeshi defendant denied sexual assault at the High Criminal Court yesterday.
“I am just a tailor,” he said, via a translator appointed by the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry, as he shed tears behind a glass partition.
“I did not touch her inappropriately. I was just simply doing my job. I have done my job every day for the last five years and do not know why I am in trouble now. I have not sexually assaulted any of my clients.”
The victim said that the defendant ‘laughed’ as he groped her from behind before she stormed out of the tailoring shop. “I did not expect this to happen to me,” she told prosecutors.
“He (the defendant) touched my body and said ‘very good and round’. I started crying before I ran out of the premises.
“I then went and told my parents about my ordeal. I’m still in shock.”
The trial has been adjourned until Sunday for review.
