Abu Dhabi: An Emirati businessman was detained in Ohio state after US police mistook him for an Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) member.
A video recording showing the police in the City of Cleveland as they were apprehending Ahmed Al-Menhali on June 29 went viral online.
The police handcuffed him after a woman working at the Fairfield Inn and Suites called 911 and reported the presumed Daesh member.
The woman mistook him to be member of the ISIS as he was dressed in traditional Emirati kandoura and headscarf and was speaking on the phone, reported local Arabic daily Emarat Al Youm.
The 40-year-old businessman, who hails from the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, was in fact on a medical trip to the United States of America.
The video recording showed the police officers yelling at the man to lie on the ground before handcuffing him.
The footage, which was aired on News Channel 5 and other US channels, went viral on social media websites.
