MANAMA: A woman who was allegedly groped by a man outside a gym confronted her alleged assailant in court for the first time since the incident.
The 34-year-old Bahraini victim appeared at the High Criminal Court yesterday (oct24) where she took to the stand.
She was giving evidence in the trial of a 33-year-old Bahraini accused of sexually assaulting her outside a gym in Jed Ali in August.
The woman shed tears as she recounted how she was assaulted while talking to her husband on her mobile phone.
“I never expected to be abused right outside the gym I exercise at,” she told a leading judge. “I was on the phone with my husband when I felt a slap on my behind.
“The defendant then started laughing and I saw him standing behind me. I was in shock and started screaming hysterically. The man then started to run and hide behind cars.”
The victim then described how she took out her mobile phone and started filming her alleged assailant.
Her shock soon turned into action, the court heard, and she started filming as he sprinted between the parked vehicles and jumped into his car.
“I took down the vehicle’s number plate,” the plucky gym-goer told the court.
The defendant denied the charges and claimed that the women had filed a false complaint against him.
“She came to me and was talking in Persian,” he told a leading judge.“I did nothing to her and she made up the whole story.”
The trial has been adjourned until November 7 for review.
