The Coastguard has reported arresting ‘a number of individuals’ accused of violating fishing regulations. Legal measures are ongoing.
The actual number, or the nationalities of the accused fishermen, have not been revealed.
The authorities also checked the validity of licences for small boats and checked their condition, suitability and to ensure the availability of maritime safety tools.
An annual six-month mandatory ban on catching, trading and selling shrimp in Bahrain came into effect on February 1 and will last until July 31. It is aimed at preserving marine wealth and protecting fish stocks, offering them a chance to replenish.
Authorities have urged fishermen in the kingdom to strictly adhere to the ban, stating that failure to do so would result in legal consequences.
