How can we convince people to keep our beaches clean?
Complete CCTV coverage and hefty fines of BD500 on littering. Huge promotion conveying this message. Educating people how to use recycle bins.
@muhannaghanem
Some of the ways we can help to face beach clean-up problems are:
1. By using reusable bags and using water wisely;
2. Helping society by picking up trash;
3. By disposing of trash properly, use trash cans at the beach or take your trash home with you;
4. Reduce, reuse and recycle as many things as possible you use.

The culture needs to change first. Always having someone waiting on your every need makes you irresponsible for your own actions.
Having some kind of reward for cleaning up after those littering will just make it OK to litter. It has to be a new enforced rule and that would mean no one is outside the law.
If Bahrain took full responsibility for its own recycling then it could be an educated cycle of responsibility but the sea is the dumping ground.
Build a recycling plant and reward people with bringing their recycling to it. EWA vouchers so people can survive the summer.
@lucyturbo
This is a perfect case of the tragedy of the commons – when resources are available for public use without any legal restrictions, people often misuse them. Hence, to address this issue, I believe that beaches throughout Bahrain should be privatised.
This will give private beach-owners the incentive to keep their beaches clean and implement a more rigorous littering ban.
If they fail to do so, they’ll fall behind their competition, so free market forces will force them to improve their quality and perhaps even lower their prices.

Promote/install single-use plastic bottle and other plastic bag disposal machines that pay a certain amount equivalent to the value of the deposited waste.
@peter_sjohn
There should be something interesting for the children to start recycling waste, which attracts their attention and convinces them to go and put the waste in the bins. The children will teach the next generation and the elders would be much prouder.
@fairyfaiz
Can simply use a different technique which will make awareness and also teach people a lesson. By imposing fines or other remedies won’t be much effective. But if we can implement a solution that will remind everyone that ‘if I throw trash on the beaches I have to go through some punishment that I won’t forget in my entire life’.
1. There must be a minimum of 10 security guards in civil dress walking around the beach areas.
2. There must be proper waste disposal bins.
3. If any of the security guards sees someone throwing trash on the beaches they have to inform the nearest police station or responsible authorities.
4. When authorities came to the spot they have to make that person or the group clean up the entire beach by separating different kinds of waste. And their photos to be published through your Instagram and in the newspapers.
All this should be done without any excuses or partiality.
By implementing this for one or two months everyone would be aware of what the consequences are if they litter the beaches.
I’m sure this will change everyone’s point of view and they will think twice or more before throwing waste on the beaches.

1. Need to spread awareness on social media and other platforms about keeping the beaches clean for the sake of the environment.
2. We need to make sure every beach has trash bins.
3. Need security person or staff to check that people follow the rules and give them some rights to impose on-the-spot fines.
4. We need to offer some type of gifts or promotions so people can follow the rules and get some benefits.
5. We need to have a clean-up drive every two months and spread awareness about them.
