A GOVERNMENT official has been jailed for seven years for embezzlement. The 32-year-old Bahraini working at the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA) was found guilty of pocketing residency permit (RP) renewal fees which were paid electronically. Investigations showed that BD1,472 was embezzled from 23 RP renewal transactions.
A second man, also an NPRA employee, was found not guilty due to insufficient evidence. The defendant found guilty was also fined BD1,408 and ordered to pay back BD1,408.
