HIS Majesty King Hamad has inducted five hi-tech new warships into Bahrain’s naval fleet.
The King, who is Supreme Commander, inducted Al Ghurairiah, Sakhir, Al Farooq, Jenan and Damsa ships at a ceremony during a visit to the Royal Bahrain Naval Force (RBNF) yesterday.
His Majesty highlighted the vessels’ high combat potential and said this reflected the continuous development of BDF’s military assets.
He was welcomed on arrival by BDF Commander-in-Chief Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa.
His Majesty was accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Royal Guard Special Force Commander Captain Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The King was also welcomed by Defence Affairs Minister Lieutenant General Abdulla Al Nuaimi, BDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Theyab bin Saqr Al Nuaimi and the RBNF commander and officers.
The Supreme Commander inspected Al Ghurairiah, met with its captain and a number of her crew who briefed him about its high-end technology and efficiency.
The King welcomed ‘distinguished guests’, US Ambassador Steven Bondy, British Ambassador Roderick Drummond, the Commander of the Naval Forces of the US Central Command, the Commander of the Fifth Fleet, the Commander of the Maritime Component of the British Royal Navy, and ‘all our brothers who participated from the GCC and from the Arab countries’.
He stressed the importance of the strategic partnership with the US and the UK in all fields.
