BAHRAIN’S economic recovery will be under the spotlight at a high-profile conference that opens in Bahrain today.
Finance and National Economy Minister Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa will outline the comprehensive measures adopted by the kingdom in his keynote speech at the forum, which is being held under the patronage of Shura Council Chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh.
It has been organised by the Shura Council in co-operation with the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF), and the support of the National Bank of Bahrain.
The forum opens at the BIBF in Bahrain Bay at 8.30am.
The BIBF is the leading training and education provider in the region and is affiliated to the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB). It plays a vital role in the development of human capital in the kingdom, the Gulf region, the wider Middle East, Africa and beyond.
The conference has been organised in conjunction with the economy recovery plan, which was launched towards achieving His Majesty King Hamad’s vision in support of Bahrain’s efforts to achieve fiscal stability.
The Economic Development Board (EDB), chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, unveiled the blueprint which features initiatives aimed at revitalising the national economy, spurring growth and creating rewarding jobs.
Four main axes, based on the priorities identified in the economic recovery plan, will be discussed – developing human capital, facilitating procedures and promoting legislations, supporting promising sectors and strategic projects, in addition to financial sustainability and economic stability.
Shura Council services committee chairperson Dr Jehad Al Fadhel will moderate the first session on developing human resources. Speakers will be Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel Humaidan, Tamkeen CEO Hussein Rajab and International Federation for Training Organisations and Human Resources president Dr Ahmed Al Banna.
Legislative and legal affairs committee chairperson Dalal Al Zayed will moderate the second session on facilitating procedures and updating laws.
The role of the legislative branch in supporting the economy recovery plan and sustainable development will be discussed.
Speakers include Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed Alzayani and Bahrain Chamber chairman Sameer Nass.
The third session focuses on supporting promising sectors and strategic projects to spur growth and boost the non-oil Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as well as spearhead strategic development projects.
It will be moderated by Shura Council second deputy chairman Jameela Salman and will feature Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Kamal Ahmed, Mumtalakat CEO Khalid Al Romaihi and EDB chief Khalid Humaidan.
The final session on achieving financial and economic stability initiatives will be moderated by financial and economic affairs committee chairman Khalid Al Maskati, and feature CBB Governor Rashid Al Maraj, National Bank of Bahrain chairman Farooq Almoayyed and Finance and National Economy Ministry Under-Secretary Amna Al Romaihi.
